9. Yearly safety round of laboratories GMO1
Classified areas
- are to be checked once a year to ensure that the standard and requirements for the classification are secured. The following subjects are especially checked:
Walls, floors and permanent constructions:
- Surfaces must be intact and be easily cleaned. No cracks or gaps may be present.
- All fissures, gaps, edges and corners along the floor and permanent
- constructions such as cabinets must be sealed (typically with silicon). Alternatively the floor covering must extend up the wall.
- The wall must be painted with (“at least gloss grade 20”) paint that is easily washable.
- All wood must be covered with intact paint.
Equipment and non-permanent furniture:
- Old types of fume cupboards must be at least equipped with a steel surface that covers the front edge of the hood.
- Fridges, freezers and large cabinets must be movable, e.g. on wheels.
- Open shelves should be made of steel and easy to clean.
- Small items should be kept in easily cleanable containers (not paper bags or cardboard boxes).
- All paper notices or cardboard items must be laminated to facilitate cleaning. The label ”genteknologisk område klasse 1” must be present at all entrances to GMO1 classified areas.
Instructions
- Cleaning instructions must be readily accessible for the cleaning personnel and for daily users of the laboratory.
- Action plans must be available for each GMO laboratory and each laboratory that has GMO classified equipment.
Order and tidiness
- Empty containers should not be kept in the laboratory.
- Unnecessary items should not be kept in the laboratory.
