Work environment groups at the department
The Head of Department has overall responsibility for safety at the Department. Four local working groups have been established, and which have the responsibility for daily safety activities. Responsibility for all rooms, laboratories and training laboratories are divided between these four groups.

Twice annually the Head of Department convenes a safety meeting for all working groups.

See also LIFE's website on health and safety at work.

Accidents / injuries:
To summon an ambulance or fire service, you must still press 0 to call out of the building: 0 112

If an accident occurs, a representative from your local working group must be contacted as soon as possible with respect to notification of the injury. The representative is responsible for notifying the Head of Department.

Frederiksberg Police have the telephone number: 33 14 14 48

Lesser first-aid kits (plasters, headache pills etc.) can be found here:

  • Laboratory Office - T225
  • Outside office T245
  • The kitchen at the lunch room

Bigger first-aid kits can be found here:

  • Attendant's office T121
  • All laboratories in Transport Biology
  • Laboratories at the Danish Seed Health Center
If something is missing in a first aid box, contact Roy Reeves.

Occupational Therapy / workplace layout:
The Department will contact LIFE's affiliated occupational therapist as required, with respect to a review of workplace / office layout. At the Department we "pool" people who require a consultation because we have to cover the costs of the occupational therapist's salary ourselves. If you need an occupational therapist, you can either contact the Head of Department or your respective working group, who will coordinate the visit with the Head of Department.

The Department covers the cost of the consultant, where the visit is coordinated through the Department - otherwise the Section covers the cost itself.

Until further notice furniture is mostly paid centrally by the Department / LIFE, if it is deemed necessary to replace furniture. Otherwise the Section covers this expenditure. Should you require an elevation desk, you must present a doctors note, if the Department is to pay. If you require an elevation desk and it is not possible to obtain a doctors note, discuss it with your Head of Section first, since the Section itself will need to cover expenses for the table.

Work clothes
Most employees at the Department are, as outlined in their contract of employment, eligible for work clothes.
Faculty Services initiates an annual work clothing round where employees can buy clothing according to assigned points - typically in March.
Under the new rules at LIFE, distinctions are no longer made between Finance Bill staff and project staff when it comes to financing of work clothes.

Special needs
If KU-LIFE is to finance special clothing - such as shoes with arch supports and the like - a doctor’s note is required.

You can read more about working clothes at the faculty at KU-LIFE’s employee handbook.

Computer Display Glasses
As an employee at KU-LIFE you are entitled to display glasses, if you need them. A consultant will decide whether you need display glasses. The consultant's visits are pooled once or twice a year - contact the Department secretary if required. The Department pays the consultant's salary, if the consultant is commissioned by the Department centrally. The Department also pays a fixed subsidy toward the display glasses. Any additional costs are covered by the employee. Read more here.
