About Department of Plant Biology and Biotechnology
Department of Plant Biology and Biotechnology primarily conducts basic research in molecular biology. Our objective is to conduct basic research and research based teaching to further knowledge of plants’ basic conditional anatomical, physiological, biochemical, molecular and pathological vital functions and also to obtain a more profound knowledge of the interactions between plants, micro-organisms and the surrounding environment. Consequently, we engage in intense research and teaching activities within the Department’s main subject areas; Plant Physiology and Anatomy, Plant Biochemistry, and Plant Pathology.
The research of the Department of Plant Biology and Biotechnology is characterized by being basic scientific, original and on a very high international level. The department is run by academically competent and ambitious people, and aims at performing research projects where the generation of new knowledge has a focused cognitive or social interest – whether it be to the industrialized or the developing countries. See Latest and best publications.
Furthermore, the department has a close cooperation with industrial enterprises to ensure that the results within basic research benefit Danish society on the level of growth and enhancement of the environment. See Collaborators.
The department consists of four sections and participates in a number of centres and houses the Research School for Biotechnology (FOBI) and the secretariat for Plant Biotech Denmark.
The department currently employs approximately 170 employees of whom about 50 are PhD students. The Department has an international atmosphere with more than 35 % of the scientific staff coming from abroad. A majority of the employees are financed by external funding and the Department has a yearly turnover of about 90 mill. DKK.
