Research

At the Department of Plant Biology and Biotechnology it is our vision to maintain and develop our position as one of the principle centres for plant biology based on excellent basic and applied research. The goals are to explain the molecular basis for plants’ growth, development and health and to visualize the biological processes. We have a vision to perform original research that both increases knowledge and is of benefit to society.

The development of healthier and better food for humans and animal fodder is one of the areas where the future research at the Department must make a difference.

The Department has a wide-ranging cooperation with other institutions in Denmark as well as the private sector, which accentuated by the fact that a very large part of the Department’s research is financed by external funds.

We have also forcefully entered the comprehensive contribution to the plant area in Denmark, namely the consortium Plant Biotech Denmark (PBD) the secretariat of which is housed at the Department for Plant Biology and Biotechnolgy. The Consortium is composed of the most powerful plant research environments in Denmark.

The Department also cooperates on central research areas with a large number of foreign universities and research institutions, several of which in the developing countries. The Department attaches great importance to the condition that the international cooperation is intensified through the extension of networks and the promotion of research and teaching mobility.

Our research is characterized by the wish to maintain and develop:

  • basic scientific, original research of very high quality with the employment of academically competent fiery souls as the primary incentive
  • research projects where the generation of new knowledge has a focused cognitive or social interest – whether it be to the industrialized or the developing countries
  • a close cooperation with industrial enterprises to ensure that the results within basic research benefit Danish society on the level of growth and enhancement of the environment
