Christian Friis Bach Affiliated Professor - 27.04.2009

International Director at DanChurchAid Christian Friis Bach has been has been appointed as Affiliated Professor at Department of Plant Biology and Biotechnology and Institute of Food and Resource Economics.

Department of Plant Biology and Biotechnology has a long tradition for participation in international research programs with the generation of innovative and sustainable long term solutions to challenges in food production in developing countries as essential goals. Strong ties to several developing countries in Africa, Asia and South America have been established and were further strengthened in 2004 when the Danish Seed Health Centre for Developing Countries (DSHC) founded by DANIDA became part of the Department of Plant Biology and Biotechnology. The recruitment of Christian Friis Bach as Affiliated Professor will enable expansion of existing networks and facilitate new research collaborations and contact with decision makers both within and outside Denmark.

Throughout his career Christian Friis Bach has shown a profound interest in global issues and he demonstrates a clear understanding of how to link local issues to the broader socioeconomic and political determinants of international development and how to communicate this clearly to the public.

Appointing Christian Friis Bach as Affiliated Professor at the University of Copenhagen will serve to further strengthen the commitment of our faculty and of our University to improve our knowledge and impact with respect to sustainable development in the developing countries and to combine research and teaching with the goal of achieving long-term improved conditions for people in the developing countries.
