Education at Department of Plant Biology and Biotechnology

The basic research of Department of Plant Biology and Biotechnology is in areas that provide new knowledge of the molecular mechanisms that control the growth of plants and their interaction with the environment. One central area is the development of more robust plants that are resistant to diseases and insect attacks and which provide a high yield even under unfavourable growing conditions. These plants form the basis of production of healthier food for humans and better feed for our domestic animals. New innovative initiatives include the development of plants as “green factories” for the production of, for instance, biomedicine and bioenergy.

The department contributes to many of LIFE’s study programmes and is responsible for the coordination of educational activities in the biotechnological area across the Faculty and in cooperation with The Faculty of Science.

Educations at LIFE

The education at KU-LIFE consists of a basic Bachelor of Science Programme (3 years) and a Master of Science Programme (2 years) finishing with a Master’s thesis.

Department of Plant Biology and Biotechnology offers the following full degree programmes - taught in English:

...and the following programmes in Danish:

This is a list of the courses that the Department for Plant Biology and Biotechnology is involved in.

The department is also involved in Norpath - an international MSc programme in plant pathology offered by a consortium of 5 Nordic universities in Copenhagen, Helsinki (Finland), Reykjavik (Iceland), Uppsala/Ultuna (Sweden), and Ås (Norway). The programme lasts 2 years and is equivalent of 120 ECTS.
